2011

In 2011, the G-Project hosted another mission team from Mount Zion Community Church in Birmingham, UK. A team of 15 UK and Ghanaian volunteers embarked on a weeklong mission engaging young people between 2 and 20 years of age in a range of activities including sports, art and craft, music and drama and motivational seminars. The team hosted a 2 day evening crusade in the community where they preached the gospel and prayed for the sick. The community enjoyed interacting with the team and was very grateful for their contribution and words of encouragement especially to the younger generation.

In 2011, the G-Project in conjunction with Alpha Beta Charitable Trust (ACT), built a children’s playground for the A.M.E Zion Nursery School in Agona-Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana. The nursery is home to about 90 children aged 2-5 years and previously had no allocated play area or play equipment for the children. The G-Project and ACT provided a dedicated enclosure with playground equipment and a mini football pitch for the use of the children.

2010

In 2010, the G-Project had the opportunity to host a mission group from Mount Zion Community Church in Birmingham, UK. We hosted a team of 15 volunteers who stayed in Ghana for 2 weeks. They spent some time at our project site in Gyakiti, where they took part in a variety of activities including sports, music, drama, arts and literacy with the school children. They also ran some outreach programs in the community where they went from house to house spreading the gospel and praying for the sick as well as running crusades at the local church. The community greatly appreciated the time that the mission team spent with them.

2009

In 2009, the G-Project sponsored an educational exchange program where 10 children from our project site in Gyakiti were given the opportunity to spend a few days in Accra – the capital city. This was an exciting adventure for them as many of them had never been outside their community before. They spent some time at Alpha Beta Education Centres in Accra interacting with other children and joining in lessons. They also had the opportunity to take in the major tourist sites, visit the cinema and eat out at a restaurant. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and found it very inspiring.

2008

A major hurdle identified during our maiden mission was the difficulty that local children faced developing their English literacy skills. This issue stemmed mainly from lack of exposure to the English language due to general illiteracy amongst the adults and minimal exposure to reading material or media. This had a knock on effect in the classroom as teachers found it easier to teach the children in a local language. This was a major concern because the formal education system and all associated examinations are in English.

The 2008 project, therefore, aimed to develop facilities and provide resources to address this need. A children’s library was built and stocked with over 1000 books. To commission the library a week-long literacy programme was run by 13 UK and Ghanaian volunteers working with local teachers and children.

The children also had the opportunity to take part in a play, directed by Aziz Baako and performed at the celebratory Durbar, which explored the issues surrounding education, community responsibility and the changing values of African culture.

The library is run by two Ghanaian members of staff, who received training through the Osu Children’s Library Fund. Staff are remunerated by the generous donations received from our supporters.

2007

The maiden venture of the G-Project was the renovation of a dilapidated nursery school in Gyakiti, a village in the Eastern region of Ghana. The school which was home to 100 children between the ages of 2 to 5 years  and was in a dire need of repair and lacking in essential resources. Funds raised by the team enabled us to get the nursery school fully refurbished and donate furniture, playground equipment, books, teaching materials, sports equipment and a water storage tank to the school.

A team of UK and Ghanaian volunteers went on a weeklong mission to Gyakiti in the summer of 2007 during which we ran various activities including art and craft sessions, sports days, personal development workshops and hypertension and diabetes clinics for the local community.

The weeklong mission ended with a durbar and presentation of donated materials to the community. The people of Gyakiti were very grateful for our presence and donations and were thankful for our commitment to helping them improve their community.
